-OUTDOOR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY-
As a Surrey Family Photographer, I spend most of my time behind the camera but last weekend the amazing family photographer Becca Haigh finally persuaded me to get in front of her lens in our own outdoor family photoshoot.
I am so grateful that she did because now we have images I am actually in and it gave me such an amazing insight to how the families I work with feel.
In this blog, I’m sharing 6 surprising facts about having an outdoor family photoshoot from my time on the shoot!
1. It helps deal with mummy guilt…
I, like many of you, am a working mum with a packed schedule with school, a myriad of extra curricular activities, and running a business. Achieving a good balance is near on impossible and often feel guilty for not being the best mum possible. Spending quality time with my boys with ‘no’ distractions is so precious to me.
The time we spent on the shoot meant that not only were we capturing precious memories before they are all grown up, we actually got to spend some uninterrupted quality time together. From my perspective that was priceless!
2. It’s ok if the kids misbehave
Having our family photoshoot outdoors meant that my boys could run, climb and play, all whilst Becca caught beautiful natural imagery of their childhood. The session was so relaxed, there were no time pressures, so it was ok when William started to act up we just moved on to another location and started to explore the nature around us.
Surprisingly, I didn’t turn into ‘shouty’ mum once!!
3. There really is zero awkward posing in front of the camera!
If you are anything like most women, we hate being photographed, right? An outdoor family photography session really does shift the emphasis off being photographed onto spending fun time together. There was no limit on the amount of time we were out for, no rushing or pressure to get everyone looking at the camera at the same time; just relaxed and fun memory making.
4. It gets you moving!
I love being active and even with the best will in the world I don’t get to the gym or out running as often as I would like. So being outdoors AND getting moving was a win win! 🙂
5. There are lots of opportunity for a variety of images
Becca provided me around 50 beautifully edited images. Having such a wide variety to choose from was brilliant and meant that I could create a beautiful wall gallery for my home rather than just a few individual shots.
6. It’s a life saver for time poor mums like me…
From planning, preparation, shooting, editing and production of a gorgeous set of images to being provided with an example wall gallery layout. I’m so grateful that everything was done for me.
The planning time before the shoot meant that Becca already knew what was important to me in my images. We’d discussed all the finer details of what to wear, to what I didn’t like about myself in pictures.
A complete treat and one that will last a lifetime. I know I will look back on these images in years to come and be so thankful we took the time to do it.
A massive thank you!
Becca, I can’t thank you enough for making the whole process so easy. You were incredible with us all and I’m so grateful that you made me feel so comfortable in front of the camera and captured such beautiful memories for us xx
